Jesus calls all of us to service...

Hi my name is Kirk Guillory and I live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. A few years ago I decided to give back to those in need and with the help of Food For The Poor and generous donors like you, we were able to complete the building of St. Peter Claver Village of Hope in Jinotega, Nicaragua.

My current mission is to collect enough money to build 10 double homes for struggling families in El Salvador. I will keep you informed each step of the way. You can check back to this page to see total funds and pictures of progress.

Families in El Salvador need our help

The community of Mons. Oscar Romero is home to about 200 people, and is located in the municipality of Cacaopera, Morazán department. It's common to see homes made of mud, bamboo, metal sheeting, and plastic.

The families living in the Mons. Oscar Romero community were forced to relocate there by the government in the 1980s due to the civil war in El Salvador at the time. The housing that was provided for them then was inadequate, and the makeshift shacks have only gotten worse over time. Homes are mostly made of rusted metal sheets, old wood, and rocks. The houses have dirt floors and the unsanitary living conditions contribute to health issues. The community is struggling because residents do not have the economic resources to improve their conditions. Providing these families with safe and secure housing will drastically improve their quality of life, which will further combat the poverty they live in.

My church, St. Theodore & Missions, and I have pledged to provide 10 double-unit homes to the Monsignor Oscar Romero Community Development project. The homes will consist of two bedrooms, a living room, a personal sanitation unit, and water component.

With your help, we can give these families back their dignity and provide a lasting, durable, and safe place for them to call home.
